Reports say that Conference of Islamic Organisation, CIO are claiming that they rejected $3 million from the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan. Coordinator of the group, Imam Abdullahi Shuaib revealed this at the 22nd National Islamic Training Programme (NITP) which was held in Ogun state.
Abdullahi said the former president tried through his aides to woo them with the $3 million bribe in exchange for votes. Abdullahi further said that the said offer was tagged religious funds. In his words;
“And today we have been vindicated and its not even part of our own culture to take bribe.
We prefer to go hungry than to collect a bribe from somebody, that is unlawful.
because we know very well that it was a bait; it was a poison and you cannot eat and dine with the devil and think the devil will not come after you.”
