The Nigerian U-23 side threw away a 2 goal lead as the Egyptian U-23 side came from behind to finish the game at 2 -2. A well deserved draw for the Egyptians as they were unfortunately penalized for a ball which seemed to hit their defender on the knee resulting in the first goal from the spot. The penalty was carefully slotted in by Etebo and only a few minutes later the Egyptians were handed another punishment as a handball foul from another defender saw Etebo scoring again from the spot.
The game finished 2 – 0 in the first half but it was not long enough into the second half before the Eyptian U-23 side came right back into the game to equalize in the 47 and 52 minute of the game.
The Samson Siasia tutored team will only need a draw against Algeria in their next game to qualify for the semi final of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
The first, second and third teams from this tournament will represent Africa in the football event of the 2016 Olympic games.
