Darius Ishaku of the PDP and governor of Taraba state this afternoon recorded a successful appeal at the court of appeal in Abuja as the appellate court overturned the decision of the election tribunal who had earlier declared Aisha Alhassan aka Mama Taraba as the winner of the April 11 gubernatorial elections in the state.
The chair of the five judges presiding over the case, Justice Abdul Aboki read; the appellate court held that Aisha Alhassan and the APC had no legal right to challenge the alleged improper conduct of the primaries which produced Ishaku as PDP‘s candidate.
The appeal court held that the APC and Alhassa, lacked the locus standi to challenge Ishaku‘s qualification to contest the April 11, 2015 governorship election on the basis of alleged non-compliance of the conduct of PDP‘s primary with provisions of sections 85 and 87 of the Electoral Act. ”ŽThe appeal court therefore set aside the judgment of Justice Danladi Abubakar of the election tribunal and ordered that the certificate of return issued to Governor Ishaku by the Independent National Electoral Commission remained valid.
Mama Taraba is the current Minister of Women Affairs and might have to continue in that office till the next elections.
